As I watched a DVD on the properties of Earth, its different faces, and all the things that make it our Earth. Sitting amongst my students I was amazed at how much power the sun has over the earth despite the great distance between the star and planet. It was a geeky "Holy Crap!" moment and again I was reminded how small I was in comparison to the rest of the universe.
Another interesting topic, was during early recess. The 4th grade teacher and I contemplated the ideas of what truly makes a species vicious. This was in response to a current situation in Hawaii involve Pit bulls and making them illegal due to their aggressiveness. We agreed that the aggressive nature of any species depends on how it was nurtured. Of course any species is prone to aggressiveness (humans not excluded) but when an animal is in an environment that teaches to to control it, its aggressive nature should not be blamed on its species alone.

While taking a break from playing Fable 2 I came across this in the RSS feeds.
This was just awesome! Now I played cops & robbers, TMNT, and went around in my own dirt bike reeking havoc on my grandmother's poor disposition when I was younger. The "marry me" thing was just to girly for me I guess. But this little girl is just kick ass in my books.
Beside the learning to ride her bike on her own and ramping over the little boy brat, my favorite part was when she colored her bike a different color with a magic marker. Priceless!
"Its a girls bike...!" Indeed...

School has been canceled tomorrow due to imminent weather... Really Really. Damn lucky kids! They don't get to see their report cards! *evil laughter*
ANYWAY! I did fanart... Mai-Hime and very Shiznat.
I was being very geeky while entering grades. Just using my tablet... sketched.
Be safe everyone!

I should maybe blog about my start of the knew year... but I'm not that motivated.
What really got me today was this incident:
My class is a bit talkative and I honestly don't mind when they talk in class as long its not while I'm teaching. They tend to get a bit loud and sometimes I have have to call them to attention. But of course as a teacher you can only do that so many times till it gets irritating. So I give my students a choice keep going with all the talking or they get more homework. They know that I'm pretty good about keeping their work load light, but they also know that I can lay it on thick. Let me also point out that they know my mannerisms to a degree.
So they were give the choice again today.
During their Reading, I gave them work to do and let them have at it. Their volume level was moderate and not high. The punch line to this was that I only stood up from my desk to reach for a workbook for the next class and immediately the whole class goes quiet. It was such an abrupt change that I nearly laughed out loud that their response conditioning. They had thought that because of their talking I was going to give them more work.
I think its going to make me giggle for the rest of the day.
