Well we're at the 5 day mark for the students as they count down to their summer vacation. People keep asking me am I excited for my summer, but in all honestly that is the furthest thing from my mind. Most of the time. Right now for all us teachers its just total paperwork, grades, end of year clean up, and making sure our students don't go completely ape shit with summer excitement.
But then when I am at home or in the early morning, such as now, I can't help but feel the slow build up of excitement and anxiety as my travel dates get closer and closer.
June 7th marks the first trip which is to San Jose, CA. Mainly for a graduation, I totally begged my mom that she could not see the Sequoia trees without me. Hence a mini road trip to go hug a tree.
Coming back on the 14th, I'm given one day of rest before I fly out again on June 16th.
I got my itinerary down solid now and I can't believe I'm going to be doing half the shit I got planned.
As in the previous post:
Arrival - June 17 Narita
Mainly hanging around the Holiday Inn and prowling vending machines for toothpaste.
June 18-24 Osaka
The whale shark is the main highlight mostly, before I go cruising around and getting lost on the buses, subways, and trains.
June 25-July 1 Kyoto
This is my first week in Kyoto, but I'm actually using Kyoto as a base for day trips out to Hiroshima, Kobe, and Nara.
July 2-July 6 Kawaguchiko, Mt. Fuji
1AM hike to watch the sunrise from the summit.
July 7 - July 13 South Tokyo
I'm mainly planning on exploring the areas south of Tokyo and east of Mt. Fuji. There are some hikes that I am totally stoked about in this area.
July 14-22 Kyoto (yeah I know originally I was suppose to go north)
GION MATSURI! As you can see, yes I'm back in Kyoto. This time its all about the temples, gates, bamboo groves, festivals, AND the flea market! SCORE!
July 23-28 Tokyo
I might as well see the main city of Japan and the Ghibil Museum.
July 29-30 en route back to Hawaii via Narita
I'm probably going to sleep all day in my hotel room.
My Japanese is total crap but I hope to get by with what little I know. As long as I can feed myself I should be alright. I hope I don't have an asthma attack on Mt. Fuji, have to get a refill on my inhaler.
Got me a bigger traveling backpack, (my old Eagle Creek was too small for this length of a trip). So now I'm pretty set with what gear I need. Need to double check on rail and bus passes for certain areas, but I am good and ready to get lost.
