#165 - It takes a village...

So I bought my first car this weekend and this is how it went.

A friend of mine from college works IT at the dealership and hooked me up with one of the salesmen. My uncle's cousin knows a guy there and hooked me up there as well. Turned out to be the same guy. Then the Finance Manager apparently was the singer at my Aunt's wedding from a while back. On top of that I get an email from an old upper class men that works at the insurance company office that I filed my insurance with...

Small world...

#164 - All part of the family...

Every family has its troubles, skeletons, and jokes. A running joke for my family is the varying medical problems that we all share. We have a nice general range of High Blood Pressure, Hyper-Tension, High Cholesterol, Diabetes, Asthma, Heart Problems, Stroke, Fibroids, Cysts, Lupus, and various bodily aches and pains.

I've been lucky through my youth to only get away with minor sprains and the occasional and rare bout with Asthma. But jokingly I did feel left out from all the rest. What can I say, I wanted to fit in.

Well I got my wish it seems. As you know I recently had another cyst removed. In doing so my OBGYN discovered the root of the problem. Over the past week I've been reading about it, trying to understand what the heck it is and what I can do...

Endometriosis (I always mis-pronounce it) - Which is to say my uterus throws up backwards and it hurts like a bitch. At least thats one of the ways - there are other causes for Endometriosis; but mine is uterus regurgitation into the fallopian tubes.

Apparently not much is known about Endometriosis and there is a lot of conflicting information. It can be the result of a lot of things or a few things. Luck of the draw I guess.

So I got my wish, my own little medical quirk.

But like the saying goes things come in threes... so no doubt I'll get another cyst down the line. Hopefully this one takes more than 4 months to form.

And if someone is feeling like a remarkable asshole... these would make great gifts.

#163 - Adventures with my ovaries

***WARNING if you DO NOT want to see live and real ovaries or are squeamish about medical pictures--- DON'T read***

Well I managed 5 hours of sleep since getting home yesterday from the hospital. I hurt like a person should hurt after a surgery and I might still be a bit dizzy from the anesthesia. But, it could be my pain meds that I took at 4am, label warns of dizziness.

So yesterday I admitted myself at Queens for a surgery to take out an ovarian cyst. If some of you recall I had the same thing happen in Dec 2010.

That one looked like this:

So it was the same old game this time around. Surgery was scheduled for 11AM but got pushed back to 7PM. I got to watch the Heat and Celtics game and catch up on a lot of NatGeo and Discovery channel.

Dare I say that this time around it was a bit bigger...

I was out by 11PM.

Instructions point out that I need rest for about 6 weeks, I got doc app next Monday, and I'll be back in school on Tues.
