Lots of things happen...
Gion Matsuri came and went. I have to say that I enjoyed the night before the parade only because it was a lot more festive. But the procession of floats was awe-inspiring! They were so beautiful and how the people moved them about to make the turns was TOTALLY old school.
Nara was beautiful as well as the Daibutsu there, the deer weren't a problem for me but it was rather funny watching them chase around a little girl that was too scared to give them the cookies. (She wasn't that little... probably my students age.) Still I chuckled.
Went to Nagoya today, Sumo tournament is going on dispite all the earlier scandels and ironically all the of the cheap seats are sold out till the 25. So I got some sorta expensive ones for the 20 (becuase that was the only next available day). Personally I don't favor the current favorite wrestler (I think he has a bit of an attitude) but to spend a day watching the sport that Akibono them made famous in Hawaii... I'm down for it.
Between all this, I'm still finding time to check out the odd shrine or temple that I missed in my previous week in Kyoto. You would think that once you've seen one, you've seen them all. But there are a few that have a character all of their own and have found places in my heart.
I am totally looking forward to the flea market on the 21st and hopefully tomorrow after doing some exploring on the bus again I can watch comorant fishing at Arashiyama.
Hmmmm... I still have that hike to the onsen... poop... gotta fit that in somewhere.
